The Marana Health Center and Marana Unified School District will host their third annual Marana Care Fair from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 7 at Marana Middle School.

The fair will offer free immunizations for students in grades K-12, sports physicals at a cost of $15, health screenings for adults and children, HealthE Arizona Insurance sign-up and health information service booths.

There also will be food and entertainment for children, said Marana Middle School Principal David Liss. He said last year the fair was held at Coyote Trails Elementary School but it has grown so much in popularity that this year the fair required a bigger facility.

MUSD Vaccines For Children Site, which is a partner with the Pima County Health Department, will provide the immunizations, said MUSD health services coordinator Judy Crawford. Nurses and off-duty paramedics have volunteered to administer immunizations required for school attendance.

The Marana Health Center will provide the physicals with assistance from some Marana High School students.

"The reason we do both (physicals and immunizations) is because there are a lot of low income parents in our district who couldn't pay for both," said Care Fair committee member Chris Anders.

She added the cost of a physical should not keep a student from participating in sports activities.

Those in attendance also will be able to visit a variety of informational booths, including a Wal-Mart vision center, poison and drug information and children country resources for families. Bicycle helmets will be provided for free.

The overall purpose of the fair is to help people know the health resources available to them in the county, Anders said.
