The Marana softball team’s rough patch continued on Thursday when they lost to Sunnyside 4-1. It was their third loss in four games.
The loss dropped them to 12-5 in the regular season, but they maintained the No. 15 ranking. With one game left on the schedule against Casa Grande next week, the Tigers have little room for error. Both Flagstaff and Mohave are breathing down their neck and if they fall out of the top-16 they would have to go on the road for their first round match-up.
The game was a scoreless pitchers’ duel for the first four innings. In the top of the fifth the Blue Devils scored a run and they added a second in the sixth. Two more in the seventh put them up 4-0.
The Tigers scratched out a lone run it in the bottom of the seventh but it was not enough.
Each teams had just seven hits, but the Tigers committed three costly errors. Casey Cadenhead and Maddie Vieux each had a double to pace Marana.
