The Marana boys volleyball team's quest for the postseason received a boost last week with a win over a rival and this week features just a single regular season game, but several games overall.
The Tigers have won three in a row to improve to 8-4 in the regular season and are ranked No. 21. While that would place them in the bracket if the season concluded today, they still have a very tenuous hold on a playoff berth.
Their 3-0 win over Mountain View not only added to their resume, but had to boost their confidence in dispatching their rival.
Marana was in control the entire time. They won the first set 25-16, took set No. 2 25-19 , then closed out the match with a 25-16 third set win.
Dallin Miller led the Tigers with 10 kills, while Jake Oldham had nine. Chandler Brown led Marana with 27 assists and seven digs.
The Tigers had their Tuesday game against Cholla cancelled and will face Salpointe on Thursday. Over the weekend they will compete in the Warrior Invitational, which will not count towards the postseason, but will give the Tigers invaluable work heading into the final weeks of the regular season and the playoffs. They are slated to play Salpointe a second time in the opening game of the event and will also get Sabino and Sahuaro before moving into bracket play.
The Mountain Lions fell to 3-5 and are ranked 39th entering the week. They have played less games than most teams, but even with a huge win streak it will be tough to climb that high in the rankings. Like Marana they get Salpointe this week, hosting the Lancers on Tuesday. They also travel to Flowing Wells on Thursday before playing in the Warrior Classic themselves over the weekend.
