Neither the Mountain View baseball or softball team appear headed for the playoffs, but both teams are still battling hard down the stretch. Both got decisive wins against a Phoenix area opponent on Tuesday.

Mountain View jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back in a 11-2 win over Poston Butte.

Buddy Balsino and Brandon Hyatt each drove in three runs, while Balsino also scored three times, going 3-5 at the plate.

Mountain View scored four times in the bottom of the first and added a run in the second before their bats went quiet for the next three innings. They still led 5-0 when they exploded for a six-run sixth inning.

Poston Butte managed two in the bottom of the sixth, but that is all they could muster.

Carlos Lopez got the win for the Mountain Lions who improved to 10-14 overall and 7-7 in regular season games. They moved up to No. 41 in Tuesday morning’s ranking.

The Mountain View softball team shutout Poston Butte 11-0 on Tuesday. After being held scoreless in the first the Mountain Lions exploded for four in the second and five in the third. They added two more in the fourth and the game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
