While both teams had active bats, it was the Pusch Ridge softball team that was more effective, beating Tombstone 16-7 on Tuesday.
Tombstone scored in six of the seven innings, but plated more than one run in just one inning. Conversely, the Lions put up crooked numbers in all five of the inning in which they scored.
Pusch Ridge took control early, scoring two in the first and four in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Tombstone trimmed the lead to three by scoring a run in the second and two more in the third.
Pusch Ridge added three in the fourth, but Tombtsone kept pace with runs in the bottom of the fourth and the fifth.
The Lions finished the game strong, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 7-2 over the final two innings.
Lexi Frithsen earned the win by giving up just three earned runs and striking out six in the complete game win.
Maddie Dowdle had a monster game at the plate, going 4-4 with two doubles, five RBI’s and four runs scored. Frithsen and Claire Van Stelle each had three hits apiece.
The Lions improved to 6-5 on the regular season and it should help the 13th ranked team as they try to hold onto one of the top-16 seeds and a home game to open the playoffs.
