Although their playoff hopes are likely dashed, the Marana baseball team is still playing hard. On Tuesday they played a complete game, dismantling Santa Rita 21-1 in just four innings.
The Tigers’ bats were alive from the start as they scored eight runs in the first inning then plated an astounding 11 runs in the second inning. Two more runs in the third pushed them over the 20-run mark and after the Eagles managed just one run in the top of the fourth, the game was called.
Although Marana pounded out 12 hits, they also took advantage of four Santa Rita errors and erratic pitching from the Eagles.
Dillan Fleming got the win on the mound for the Tigers and also hit a double. Jake Thompson hit a pair of doubles, while Garrett Gillespie belted a triple.
The win stopped a five-game skid for the Tigers who dropped out of playoff contention after dropping six of their last seven games before the win over Sana Rita.
The Tigers sit at 15-10 overall and 9-8 in regular season games, with one game left next Tuesday against Casa Grande.
