Canyon Del Oro came back from a 5-1 early innings deficit and held on to beat Sunnyside 8-6 on Tuesday in the second round of the Division II State Softball Tournament.

Gabrielle Blevins took over in relief and gave up just a single run over the final four plus innings. Her steadying influence allowed the Dorado offense to find itself.

Each team scored a run in the first then the Blue Devils scored four more in the top of the second, going up 5-1.

CDO was not down long, scoring four of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie things up.

The Dorados took the lead for good in the third. Ariana Felix and Carli Campbell each drove in a run to put the Dorados up 7-5.

The Blue Devils scratched out a run in the fourth, but the Dorados answered with a single run in the sixth to close out the scoring.

The Dorados will meet Ironwood Ridge in the third round of the tournament, Thursday evening at Cherry Field in Tucson. The loser will fall to the elimination bracket and play in the Phoenix area on Saturday, while the winner will be off until next Monday.
