Two local boys tennis players survived the opening weekend in the Division II Boys Singles Tennis Championships and could meet in the quarterfinals.
Ironwood Ridge’s Ryan Knox, the No. 2 seed, had little difficulty, winning his two matches. 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0.
He’ll face Yuma Kofa’s Zachary Castaneda on May 2.
Josh Case of CDO is also still in the bracket. He won his first match against Zachary Taylor of Paradise Valley 6-3, 6-3 then cruised to a second round 6-1, 6-2 lead against Douglas’ Alex Tiratira.
He will take on Igor Perisic of Arcadia.

Second seeded Mike Lee of Catalina foothills forfeited his first match against Flagstaff’s Matt Ryan.
No reason was given for Lee’s forfeit, but older brother Jackson was not in the bracket for Foothills, despite having an impressive resume. Jackson had not competed with Foothills their past few regular season matches.
Mountain View Carlos Carrizoza won his first round match, but fell to Rincon’s Brendan Rumel 6-3, 6-0 in the second round.
Richard Rigby of Marana battled Buena’s Charlie Dunbar, but fell in three sets. Rigby took the first set 6-7, but won the next two sets 7-3, 7-3.
Dunbar won his second round match 6-0, 6-0.
