Canyon Del Oro used one huge inning to propel themselves to a 6-4 win over Ironwood Ridge in a showdown of top-four teams on Tuesday.

The fourth ranked Dorados used the long ball on their way to a five-run fifth and erasing a 3-1 deficit.

Samantha Nettling and Samantha Sullivan belted back-to-back home runs and finally got to the Nighthawks’ Emily Robinson who had been keeping the ball away from Dorado hitters all day, preferring to give up walks to hits.

After the Dorados took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first, the Nighthawks came right back and plated a pair in the second. They added their third run in the top of the fifth.

After getting down 6-3, the Nighthawks managed just one more run it the seventh.

Sophomore Randi Longville earned the win for the Dorados, giving up just four hits and striking out nine Nighthawk batters.

The win pushed the Dorados to 10-2 in regular season games and 17-6 overall. CDO has won nine straight regulars season contests, including two wins over Marana and the win over the Nighthawks and 10 overall.

Ironwood Ridge falls to 12-3/20-7 and snap a modest three-game win streak.
