Catalina Foothills' Kirtana Bhat won the Division II girls singles tennis title, beating Sabrina Barkdull of Arcadia. Bhat actually dropped the first set 7-6, but then rallied to win the final two sets 6-4 and 6-0.
It is Bhat's third state title, she previously won a pair of doubles titles with her sister Rashana.
Bhat opened the weekend with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Canyon Del Oro’s Carolina Pensky. Then in the quarterfinals she defeated Ironwood Ridge’s Stephanie Nickles, who advance via a default by Cibola’s Shelby Chambless. Bhat won the match 6-0, 6-1, losing her first game of the tournament.
To advance to the finals she had to face No. 5 Natalia Lombardi of Notre Dame Prep. Bhat lst four games, but still cruised to the finals 6-2, 6-2.
Bhat and her Catalina Foothills teammates return to action in the team tournament on Wednesday with a home match against Prescott.
