The Pusch Ridge softball team fended off a pair of rallies ad downed St. Gregory 12-8 to close out the regulars season on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, thanks to a four-run second inning and led 6-1 heading into the bottom of the third.
The Lions answered in the next inning scoring five runs, and adding a sixth in the next inning. Down 12-5 St. Gregory tried to rally in the seventh and managed to score three runs before the Lions got out of the inning and earned the wins.
It was not a clean game, each team committed six errors. Emma Stambaugh was 4-5 at the plate with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Maddie Dowdle had three hits, drove in three and scored twice. Karli Schmidt scored three times in the contest.
The win gives the Lions a winning record overall at 13-12-1 and they are now 9-9 in regular season games. They are expected to get a berth in the Division IV state tournament.
