The Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks defeated the Canyon Del Oro Dorados 4-0 Wednesday evening at Cherry Field.

The Nighthawks were led defensively by the crafty pitching of Emily Robinson, whose effort at the plate contributed to nearly flawless fielding from the Nighthawk defense.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when the Nighthawks knocked in two runs.

Canyon Del Oro failed to respond offensively, allowing the Nighthawks to further build their lead in the sixth inning when they collected two more runs to bring the game to 4-0.

The Nighthawks will advance to the semifinals to play Greenway High School, who fell to the loser's bracket after losing to Sunrise Mountain tonight.

Sunrise Mountain automatically qualifies for the state championship game - their second showing in two years. Last year, Sunrise Mountain lost the championship game to CDO.

The championship game is scheduled for May 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Farrington Softball Stadium in Phoenix.
