CDO kept their season alive, eliminating Marana 11-0 Monday night at Cherry Field. The Dorados had their bats working and took advantage of some sloppy Marana fielding and will now meet No. 1 Verrado.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third, when a two-out error allowed CDO to score a run. They would tack on another run that inning to go up 2-0.
The bats came alive from there. They scored four more in the fourth inning, then thanks to a three-run home run by Makenzie Sullivan, scored five runs in the fifth and envoked the 10-run mercy rule.
CDO got a strong pitching performance from Randi Longville. The Dorado’s ace struggled in her first few playoff outings, but tossed a one-hitter on Monday night.
The Tigers, who had won their first three games of the postseason but playing fairly clean softball, committed five errors on the night. Marana was eliminated with the loss, while
CDO will play No. 1 Buckeye Verrado today at 6:30 p.m. at Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix.
Ironwood Ridge will meet Cactus in a semi-final game. The winner will advance to the championship game, the loser will meet the CDO/Verrado winner on Thursday.
