The Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks remained undefeated after collecting their seventh straight win of the season against Mountain View on Friday night.

The Nighthawks struck first on Mountain View’s home field, when a punt was blocked and collected in the end zone by the Ironwood Ridge defense for a touchdown two minutes into the first quarter.

Ironwood Ridge would extend its lead to 13-0 when Jake Vartanian rushed 10 yards into the end zone following a fumble recovery by Austin Goddard that put the Nighthawks in good field position.

Mountain View would put together an offensive drive of its own to close out the first quarter, leading Corbon Gouby to a one-yard rushing score.

Early in the second quarter, Estrada struck again with a 58-yard touchdown carry to put the Mountain Lions ahead 14-13.

With the half winding down, Ironwood’s Anthony Braunreiter rushed two yards into the end zone. A two point conversion gave the Nighthawks a 21-14 advantage.

The second half was all Nighthawks. Defensively, they prevented Mountain View from scoring again, while at the same time adding another three touchdowns offensively.

The first came from Vartanian, who broke free from the Mountain Lions’ defense for a 36-yard touchdown.

With a 28-14 lead, Cris Thorson took over, scoring the next two touchdowns on carries of 52 yards and 1 yard to finalize the game at 42-14.

Ironwood Ridge improves to 7-0, and looks to stay perfect when they play Flowing Wells next Friday.

Mountain View falls to 4-3 and next faces Catalina Foothills.
