The American Red Cross-Arizona Blood Services Region will be in Oro Valley for a platelet drive on Thursday, Jan. 20. The drive will take place 6:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. at the Town of Oro Valley Council Chambers, 11000 N. La Cañada Drive.

Platelets help prevent or stop bleeding by aiding in the clotting process. Platelet donations go to critically ill children and adults who are being treated for leukemia, other cancers, surgery, burns, bone marrow and organ transplants.

Platelet donors will receive a limited-edition, long-sleeved T-shirt, entry into a drawing to win a $500 gift card to a local retailer of their choice, a point per pint donated toward the Winners for Life donor achievement program, and free food from Marco’s Pizza.

First-time platelet donors will receive two entries into the drawing for the $500 gift card.

For appointments or more information, call 230-7266 or 230-7267.

Those who have never donated platelets can walk in between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. for a 10-minute prescreening process to determine their donation eligibility. Persons will receive the test results in two to three days.
