St. Mark's United Methodist Church is offering a free community health fair, focusing on health and wellness, on Sunday, April 11.

The event runs from 8 to 11 a.m. at the church, which is located at 1431 W. Magee Road, the southwest corner of La Cañada and Magee.

Pharmacy students and licensed pharmacists from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy are going to conduct screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma. They'll also conduct "brown bag medicine checks." Individuals are welcome to bring their medications and any over-the-counter medicines and/or supplements, and have the pharmacy students, along with the licensed pharmacists, review the reasons for taking the medicines, possible side effects and any interactions.

Information on smoking cessation will also be available, and the UA College of Nursing is helping people understand how to take their medicines as prescribed.

A variety of other healthcare organizations and individuals will be present on the west patio of the church campus, including the Alzheimer's Association; Amy Drescher, registered dietician; Lane Harmon, counselor-in-residence at St. Mark's; the Health and Wholeness Ministry of St. Mark's; the HIV/AIDS Ministry of St. Mark's; Interfaith Community Services; Steve Lee, M.Div., counselor; Mothers of Preschoolers; the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southern Arizona; Northwest Medical Center and Pima Council on Aging.
