Hit and "runs" driver gets probation

When you gotta go, you gotta go. Unless you hit a pedestrian with your car in the process.

The 92-year-old woman who cited diarrhea as the reason for fleeing the scene of an accident in February has been charged with 18 months probation by the Pima County Superior Court.

Persis Draper was driving near the intersection of La Cholla and Magee roads when she knowingly struck a jogger but continued driving because of bowel issues.

After fleeing, Draper stopped at a grocery store to use the toilet and purchase some food.

A witness relayed Draper's license plate number and she was later tracked down by police.

Draper no longer has a driver's license. If she completes probation, she will only be charged with a misdemeanor.
