How can you find a trustworthy mechanic?

The good news is there are automotive technicians who only sell the parts and services your car needs. The bad news is every mechanic wants you to think they are honest.

To find that paragon of virtue, you may get a recommendation from a friend or read Internet reviews.

In your search it is important to know many employees of chain and dealerships work on a commission, so adding to your work order is not unusual.

To protect your wallet, you need to do some investigative work. If a technician says you need to replace a worn out part, ask to see it preferably while it is still in your car. I have known shops that keep broken parts under their counter to show customers.

Finally, employ a certified mechanic who is willing to work directly with you. He will associate the driver with the vehicle, creating a greater sense of responsibility and pride in his work.
