Rollover accident

On Wednesday, Jan. 1, at 6:35 p.m., the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call regarding a single vehicle rollover accident in the area of Hidden Valley Road and Fulcar Road just outside of the city limits of Maricopa.

When deputies arrived on scene, they determined the driver of the 1999 Ford Expedition had been traveling northbound on Hidden Valley Road. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled several times.

The driver of the vehicle was Andrew Homer (age 21 of the Ak-Chin Reservation), the front seat passenger was Jordan Lopez (age 22 of the Ak-Chin Reservation), Hector Medrano (age 19 of the Ak-Chin Reservation) along with a 13-year-old male were in the backseat.

PCSO Vehicular Crimes Unit responded and took over the investigation. None of the four occupants were wearing their seat belts and all of the occupants had been drinking beer earlier in the day including the 13-year-old who was later determined to have a .102 blood alcohol level.

Homer was transported by ground ambulance and the other three were transported by air ambulance to local hospitals for their injuries. One of the passengers injuries are considered critical, another serious and Homer and the 13-year-old received minor injuries.

Homer was later interviewed and said that he had just left the “Farmers Market” after buying more beer. He was traveling 45 to 50 mph when he lost control of the vehicle.

Andrew Homer currently has a “Suspended Arizona Drivers License.” When he is released from the hospital and the blood results return from testing he is facing charges of Aggravated Assault, Endangerment, Aggravated DUI and Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office just finished a record setting year for impaired driving arrests. Andrew Homer risked not only his life but the lives of his passengers and other motorists on the roadway when he chose to drive while impaired by alcohol. Driving while impaired by alcohol is a recipe for disaster.”
