Several Tucson artists are among more than 60 Arizona artists from around the state whose nature-inspired artworks are on display at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in an alliterative exhibition titled “Birds, Blooms and Bugs.”

The work of Acacia Alder; James Cook; Gregory Cranwell; Al Glann; Lisa Krikawa; Peter L. Kresan; DeAnn Melton; Robert Renfrow; Jeff Smith; Vicky Stromee; and Martha A. Thompson are included in the exhibition that showcases a variety of media in Terminal 3 and Terminal 2.

The artwork in Terminal 3 on level 2 will be displayed through May 4 and includes traditional paintings, prints and sculptures, as well as unusual artistic approaches in glass, fiber, ceramics and metals.  An accompanying exhibition at Terminal 2 features all photography and can be seen pre-security in the entry area and in three display cases through May 28.

The diverse selection of artworks includes a 42-inch-long dragonfly made from welded metal cutlery; a botanical illustration of a white poppy; and a collaged piece, with a large black raven that pays tribute to Edgar Allen Poe by incorporating the word “quoth” painted on it.

The southern region of the state is represented with artists from Bisbee, Vail, Sierra Vista, Sonoita and Tucson.  The northern region is represented with artists from Williams, Seligman, and Flagstaff.  The Verde Valley in central Arizona is represented with artists from Sedona, Clarkdale, Cottonwood and Prescott.  The Phoenix area is represented with artists from Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler and Phoenix.

The exhibition represents the work of artists who responded to the Phoenix Airport Museum’s call for entries last fall.

The Phoenix Airport Museum is one of the largest airport art museums in the U.S.  The museum includes an art collection of nearly 900 artworks, 35 exhibition spaces in six buildings and the Phoenix Aviation Archive. For more information, visit and
