Tucson mayor Jonathan Rothschild recently announced that Tucson is one of 25 “flagship cities” selected by the Obama administration to take part in an initiative to end homelessness among veterans by 2015.

Last month, many Tucson community organizations and businesses came together at the summer Stand Down to provide critical services, including medical and dental care, employment services, veterinary care for pets, showers, food, clothing, aid for legal matters, and much more.

The term “stand down” is modeled after the concept used during the Vietnam War to provide a safe retreat for units returning from combat operations.

For this event, Splendido residents collected more than 500 articles of clothing and other items for donation, which served roughly 75 homeless area veterans.

Splendido residents were honored with a certificate of thanks for this recent contribution to the Homeless Veterans Resource Day Stand Down.
