Tea is the most commonly consumed beverage in the world, second after water. If you’re not drinking tea yet, read up on these six ways tea does a body good:

Tea doesn’t have any calories (unless you add milk or sweetener).

Tea protects against cancer. While overall research is inconclusive, there are enough studies out there showing the potential protective effects of drinking tea due to their polyphenols (tea’s antioxidants).

Green tea has been shown to increase metabolic rates so that you burn up to 80 additional calories by drinking five cups per day.

Tea has less caffeine than coffee.

Tea may reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. A study done in the Netherlands found that people who drank at least two to three cups of black tea daily had a 70 percent lower risk of fatal heart attacks compared to non-tea drinkers.

Tea can be a social activity, host a tea party. Create your guest list and send out invitations. Plan your tea menu; include traditional and unique or seasonal teas. Brush up on your tea party etiquette, but don’t fret about which hand to hold the tea cup with. Just have fun.
