Why are you running for office?
Because I love my kids and I am broken hearted to know that they will not enjoy the same opportunities I have during my life. I run to bring sanity to our State government through personal freedom, economic freedom and a debt free future.
What do you think are your main qualifications to serve in a public office?
My main qualifier is that care more about others than I do myself. I have served people in both the public and private sectors all of my adult life. With experience in emergency services, in private property rights and business operations, I believe I possess a unique mix of life and professional experiences that few candidates for office.
What are your objections to your opponent?
We differ on our positions over Common Core and Medicaid Expansion as well as the role of government. I believe in limited, constitutionally aligned government. Jo Grant and the other Democrats have spoken of their bias to turn to government to solve problems, which grows government and the intrusion into personal and economic freedom. Voters will identify the candidates who represent their best interests for themselves and are speaking loud and clear across the nation. They have had enough big government.
What are the most important problems facing the district/town right now? What would you do about trying to solve them?
For the District I see failing infrastructure as a huge issue. We must stop HURF sweeps to balance the budget. While it has taken some time to recover from “advanced spending” (spending of money today that you are not assured of having in the future). I am a fiscal conservative and I believe we are spending money on things that are out side of what government should be spending money on at the expense of our main priorities.
Who is supporting your candidacy?
I have a grass roots support network, over 250 individuals gave $5.00 each to qualify me for the Citizens Clean Elections Commission funding.
Will you run a negative campaign?
I will not.
How much of your own money will be spent on the campaign?
The no more than the maximum allowed by the Citizens Clean Elections Commission regulations.
What experience have you had that qualifies you to become an officeholder?
I’ve served for nearly 5 years on the Tucson Association of Realtors, Government Affairs Committee, for nearly 2 years on the Pima County Small Business Commission and have owned and operated a small business in Arizona for 8 years.
What will your first action be once elected?
Review existing bills and propose bills most critical to education, infrastructure, electrical grid protection.
How do you describe yourself philosophically?
Fiscally conservative, social conservative, a Constitutionalist who believe that government should not intrude into the lives of citizens.
Do you support drug testing of employees by businesses?
Yes, if they make it a condition of employment. If a business can be sued for performance by the consumers of their product or service then they should have the right to control the environment they can.
Should the government provide money to private businesses in order to improve the economy?
No, government should not engage in picking winners and losers. That is what we have bankruptcy process for.
What are your feelings regarding the Second Amendment and gun laws?
I am a Life Member of the NRA, a member of the Arizona Citizens Defense League and as a retired law enforcement officer I stand with such professionals like the Chief of Police of the City of Detroit, who recommended that every citizen own and train with a firearm to safeguard their home and family.
How do you feel about background checks, and increasing requirements to buy a gun?
We have a back ground check system with sound standards, what we lack is a community that does not support mental health screening and care.
What should be done to address the issues involving mental health and gun laws that have resulted in mass shootings in California and Tucson for example?
In nearly every mass shooting there have been warning signs related to mental illness that were noticed. Unfortunately no action was taken, which is a tough issue to tackle since we believe in a free society. For those who leave a trail pointing to a threat on the public domain I would like to see intervention, evaluation and care.
How do you feel about campaign finance reform?
I think campaign fiancé reform is a “catch phrase” that is thrown around who one side or another doesn’t get their way. Both major parties have called for it in the past, and in a time that coincides with their failure to win. I am against the restriction of free speech and would prefer that news media report on candidates and issues more, while editorializing on their own position less. I think the level of editorialization by the media calls for a check and balance and that is likely to be the freedom to spend as much as needed to get you message out.
What will you do to bring jobs to your district?
Encourage regulator reform and sunsetting, work to become a truly transparent State with respect to taxation. Elimination of the Corporate Income Tax and getting real about who really pays the taxes is important for consumers to know the burden they are really paying.
What is your opinion regarding health care in the state?
I receive good care from the doctors o my choice so far. Initiatives such as ACA are harmful to the future of health care and our nation and we should resist participation in the program, instead pressing for free market solutions that remove middlemen from the patient doctor interchange.
What should be done about the immigration issue?
Ours is a nation that operates within the rule of law. To do less minimizes our protections offered by such a principle. We must enforce the law. That said, I would like to see incremental improvements to the immigration and naturalization process. Identified, credentialed guest workers who pay taxes to cover the cost of services they enjoy while here is just one component. The preamble of our Constitution speaks to securing the blessings of liberty “for ourselves and our posterity”, that means for those of us here already and those of us yet to be born. I am unapologetically pro-life. ! ! How do you feel about same sex marriages? We don’t get to arbitrarily and capriciously redefine a word that speaks to a religious right. God’s word is clear that marriage is between one man and one woman. The message is what it is, while so many want to persecute the messengers.! ! What are your views on public education / private schools / homeschooling? I support school choice and the competition for excellence it drives, and I support home schooling.! ! What can be done to improve the quality of education in your district? Increase funding to a competitive level with other states. That is not raising taxes, it is growing the tax base through the release of our promised lands from Congress.! ! Do you favor/oppose placing a cap on the amount property taxes could be raised in a year? If so, what should the cap be? I do favor a cap, as for the cap level I do not have enough information to make the call.
