The Wesley Bell Ringers, a group of 27 high school students from Christ United Methodist Church in Salt Lake City, play their nearly 200 precision-tuned handbells in a concert at St. Mark's United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 17.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. It is free; a free-will offering is being taken. St. Mark's is located at 1431 W. Magee Road, the southwest corner of La Cañada and Magee.

The concert is part of the choir's 45th annual concert tour. Over the past 44 years, the choir has visited and played in all 50 states and in nine Canadian provinces. The choir has performed several times with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and has appeared with The Utah Symphony. It also performed at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics in 2002.

This handbell choir has been featured in newspapers and magazines, has played on radio and television and has produced 16 recordings. This year, the choir has been invited to perform the opening night concert for the Area XI Festival of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, also in Tucson.

The program includes both sacred and secular music, and is designed to show the versatility of handbells. It includes works as diverse as "Little Fugue" (J.S. Bach) arranged by Michael Kastner, and "African Alleluia," composed by Cathy Moklebust incorporating African drum accompaniment.

"The concert is an extraordinary musical experience presented by an extraordinarily dedicated group of young people," a release said.
