The Tucson Jazz Society pops open its "Jazz Under the Stars" season of five outdoor concerts on Sunday evenings at St. Philip's Plaza, under the trees where North Campbell Avenue meets East River Road.
The spring shows start this Sunday, April 25, and continue until May 23. The sounds range from traditional swing to true jazz vocals to good ol' New Orleans romper-stompers to post-bop grooves to wildly uninhibited hard bop, a release said.
In honor of April's National Jazz Appreciation Month, vocalist Nancy Kelly jumps into the lead-off spot, eager to break the desert ice and get the Old Pueblo's jazzers back outdoors again.
Accompanying Kelly on the Hammond B3 organ will be New York's Dino Losito.
All concerts begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 members, $20 general public and $10 students and may be purchased at http://www.tucsonjazz.org">www.tucsonjazz.org or by calling 520-903-1265. Series tickets for all five concerts, priced at $60, are available to TJS members only. Acacia will sell food and beverages in the courtyard during the shows.
