Monsoon Voices, a live literary magazine with readings and music, comes to the Oro Valley Public Library on Saturday, July 11.

The event is set from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the library, located at 1305 W. Naranja. It is free, with donations accepted.

Monsoon Voices is a live performance of writing and music presented by local artists every eight weeks.

"We present material with a fresh perspective and a reverence for life," said Traci Moore, editor of Monsoon Voices. "Like a literary magazine, writers and musicians send in their work prior to submission deadlines, and the editors select the best material for live performances."

Up to seven writers read their poetry, fiction, personal essay and humor in six-minute segments. One musician performs two sets of two original songs each between the readings.

During a short break, and at the evening's conclusion, performers and audience members can connect and exchange books, CDs or business cards.

Since 2007, Monsoon Voices has offered "thought-provoking, uplifting entertainment for everyone, in a pleasant, smoke-free environment," a release said.
