Construction is well under way at Coronado K-8 School and Ironwood Ridge High School in response to a voter-approved bond in 2007.
At Ironwood Ridge, development continues on eight new classrooms, which are replacing portable classrooms on the Oro Valley campus. The new addition will consist of four typical classrooms, a student government room, two full chemistry labs, and one chemistry/ biology lab.
A classroom, fine arts and kitchen addition is being constructed at Coronado K-8.
Construction at Ironwood Ridge is expected to be completed by the end of October and construction is on schedule to be finished at Coronado around August 2011.
"As of right now they are on schedule and on budget, which has been fantastic," said Chris Louth, the bond projects manager for the Amphitheater School District. "The district is very, very grateful to the Amphi voters."
With bond revenues, the district will be constructing a facility support center at the Wetmore office, upgrading the audio and visual in the Canyon Del Oro main theater, and adding classrooms to the Rillito Center, Nash and Walker elementary schools.
"They are large, difficult projects going on, on occupied campuses, so they lend themselves to surprises and difficulties," Louth said. "And so far the construction team … (has) been able to overcome any issues that have arisen. We are keeping our promise to the voters."
