TRICO Electric Cooperative has resumed its Operation Cool Shade Program, offering its customers a chance to buy up to three desert-tolerant shade trees at the reduced cost of $11 each.

The trees can help people stay cool and save money on their electric bills, the cooperative said in a release.

Additional discounts are available to those who attend tree-care classes.

TRICO offers the Operation Cool Shade program in cooperation with the Pima County Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners. The Master Gardeners teach the tree care classes and are on-site on tree pick-up day to answer questions.

In the past 11 years, TRICO customer / members have purchased more than 15,000 trees for their homes and businesses. By planting trees near their homes, they reduce the outside temperature of their home by as much as 20 percent and see a significant savings on their summer energy bills.

Interested members can visit www.trico.coop to sign up, or call 744-2944.

Tree care classes are offered in September and October, with tree pick-up day in November at TRICO’s headquarters facility, 8600 W. Tangerine in Marana.
