"Piece the Puzzle," the fourth annual autism walk, run and resource fair, takes place Saturday, April 10, from 7:30 a.m. to noon on the mall at the University of Arizona.

It's being put on by the Autism Society's Pima County Chapter.

Autism is a complex developmental disorder, now described as the nation's fastest-growing disability, a release said. According to new information published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, autism now affects one in 110 children born in the U.S., and one in 102 in Arizona.

"With no known cure, early detection and intervention are key to helping children with autism and their families get the help they need," the release said. "Your participation in this event will make a difference and help us kick off April as Autism Awareness Month."

"Piece the Puzzle" includes food, children's activities, an autism community resource fair and more. It is "a great way to obtain a wealth of information on autism, show your support to individuals and families affected by autism, and help raise awareness of this prevalent disorder," the release continued.

People can participate by registering to walk/run, form a walk team, or by becoming a virtual walker.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the walk starts at 9. For more information regarding registering or volunteering for this event, or to donate money, visit http://www.tucsonautism.org">www.tucsonautism.org or call the Autism Society – Pima County at (520) 770-1541.
