Tucson artist Diana Madaras is unveiling 25 new works from a collection titled "The Color of Joy" this Sunday, Oct. 24, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Madaras Gallery, 3001 E. Skyline.

Madaras makes a presentation at 2:30 p.m.

The event is free, and refreshments are served. An RSVP is requested by calling 623-4000.

The works all convey "a sense of tranquility and happiness," a release said.

"In a difficult economic climate, I feel it's especially important to find ways to bring joy to people's lives," Madaras said. "I hope the paintings in this show achieve that."

Among the new paintings — a dramatic desert sunset illuminating three mighty saguaros, a snow-covered landscape bathed in a pale yellow light at dawn, bold and colorful florals, and a lily pond.

During a Sunday open house, Madaras presents a program sharing the inspiration behind the new works.

"It's been a total joy the past 10 years and I'm so grateful that I can make a living doing what I love," she said.

In the past 10 years, Madaras Gallery has grown to two locations in Tucson, now serving some 16,000 customers. Through her nonprofit foundation Art for Animals, Madaras has raised more than $200,000 to support various animal welfare groups. In addition, she donates prints and paintings to more than 100 non-animal related charities each year.

Madaras has been presented numerous awards for her art and her philanthropy, including 2009 Inside Tucson Business Woman of Influence, 2009 Recipient of the Wells Fargo Copper Cactus Award for Top Community Service, and 2010 Featured Artist of the Empire Ranch 100 Show.
