Dove of Peace Lutheran Church’s free series of classical music concerts kicks off its eighth season with a New Year’s concert, featuring the music of Mozart on Sunday, Jan. 1, starting at 2 p.m. 

The concert, featuring professional instrumentalists and vocalists from the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and Tucson Chamber Artists, will benefit Interfaith Community Services.  

The program includes: String Quintet No. 2 in C Minor, K406, special guest and newly appointed principal oboist of TSO, Sara Fraker, will be featured on Mozart’s Oboe Quartet in F Major, K370.  Also on the program are some of Mozart’s transcriptions of Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier and favorite arias from Mozart’s operas sung by several of TCA’s professional singers. 

Sara Fraker joined the Tucson Symphony Orchestra in 2005. She has performed in music festivals at Tanglewood, Aspen, Chautauqua, Spoleto Festival USA, and Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. The Boston Globe has praised her “aristocratic oboe playing.” Sara is a founding member of the Paloma Winds, which enjoys a chamber music residency in Greer, Arizona, every summer. In addition, she has performed with Tucson Chamber Artists, the Shenendoah Valley Bach Festival, the St. Andrews Bach Society, Arizona Opera, Illinois Symphony, and Sinfonia da Camera. Sara teaches private oboe students and also works as a teaching artist in TUSD’s Opening Minds through the Arts Project. A graduate of New England Conservatory and Swarthmore College, Sara recently earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Illinois. 

On Jan. 1, all of the contributions will go to Interfaith Community Services (ICS).  Representing many diverse faiths, ICS provides more than 45,000 services a year to over 24,000 disadvantaged people, disabled individuals, and seniors.
