The works of three renowned contemporary artists are on display at the Tucson Museum of Art.

"Ed Mell: Paintings of the New West;" "¡Viva David Tineo! A Retrospective of Tucson's Muralist and Art Educator;" and "Andy Warhol Portfolios: Life & Legends" are on view into the spring and summer.

Decidedly western in theme and expression, Phoenix artist Ed Mell portrays the majestic panoramas of the desert Southwest and the intricate nuances of its flora and fauna, a release said. "His luminous canvases of striated clouds stretched over distant mesas have become his stock-in-trade, earning his trademark incandescent sunsets the euphemism, "Ed Mell Sky."

The exhibition, on view through May 23, is a curatorial partnership between the Museum of Northern Arizona and the Tucson Museum of Art.

Local Latino artist David Tineo is known mostly through his city-wide murals, including Nuestras Raices Humanas (Our Roots), painted in collaboration with Antonio Pazos in 1992 that hangs in the Plaza of the Pioneers at the Tucson Museum of Art.

Andy Warhol is considered one of the leading figures in the Pop art movement and one of the most widely acknowledged artists of the 20th century. "Andy Warhol Portfolios: Life & Legends" features selections from a 40-year span of work in the art of photographic silk-screen printmaking.

"While many of the works were made in the 1970s and 1980s, their subject matter — iconic people, trends, and issues — reflects Warhol's decades-long process of mirroring popular American culture," the release said.

The exhibition is a part of Bank of America's Art in Our Communities program and will be on view through July 3.

The Tucson Museum of Art is open Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday noon-5 p.m. The first Sunday of each month is free. It is located at 140 North Main Avenue in historic downtown Tucson.
