Latin sounds, dancing at La Encantada this Saturday
Latin dancing comes to La Encantada this Saturday, Aug. 8, through the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance.
Descarga, a longtime Tucson band, brings its 10-piece sound – with three vocalists, a three-piece horn section, two percussionists, piano and bass – to the Skyline and Campbell shopping center. It's the next in the series of summer concerts at the venue.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Beer, wine, water and soft drinks are available for purchase. Tickets are $10 each. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
Chip Ritter and the Shadz Big Band bring their music to La Encantada on Saturday, Aug. 22. The Jovert Steel Drum Band plays on Sept. 5.
OV Optimists' golf event to aid youth is Friday, Sept. 11
Oro Valley Optimist Club and KOLD's Dan Marries present the 2009 "Scramble for Youth" golf tournament on Friday, Sept. 11, at the El Conquistador Country Club in Oro Valley.
Proceeds from the tournament help the Optimists support youth activities, including student of the month recognition, the Arizona Youth Partnership, Youth on Their Own, camps, scholarships, the Arizona Child Cancer Fund, Project Graduation and more.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. There is a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start in a four-person scramble format.
Entries are $125 per player. The price includes cart, green fees, lunch, team photos and assorted prizes. Hole-in-one prizes include a 2009 Cadillac from Don Mackey Cadillac, a golf cart from Coyote Golf Cars and a 2010 Lexus from Lexus of Tucson, Auto Mall. Single players are welcomed, and will be paired with others.
Sponsorship opportunities range from $150 to $5,000.
