A world margarita-making championship, fund-raising auctions, food, wine and entertainment are part of the sixth annual Tucson Culinary Festival, being held this weekend at two greater Tucson locations.

The third World Margarita Championship takes place Thursday, Oct. 23, from 7 to 9 p.m.  at the Historic Train Depot, now called Maynard’s Market, at 400 N. Toole Ave.

The 2008 finalists are The Flying V, Chad’s Steakhouse, Cuveé, Pastiche, Jonathan’s Cork, Papagayo, El Charro, The Lodge on the Desert, Cup Café at Hotel Congress, Blue Fin and Jax Kitchen.

The Reserve Tasting, with a small production, appetizers by 15 Tucson chefs and boutique wines, runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, on the patio of the Canyon Café at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, 7000 N. Resort Drive.

The Grand Tasting, billed as “Tucson’s best party,” is Saturday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom at the resort. “Amazing food will be served up by all 40 Tucson Original member restaurants, and 200 wines and spirits are there for the tasting,” the release said.

“Sun” Day Brunch and the Copper Chef Challenge run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, in the Kiva Ballroom at the resort.

Brunch goers are entertained by the third annual Copper Chef, which features Chef Jim “Murph” Murphy (King Fisher and Blue Fin) and the 2007 champion Jonathan Landeen (Jonathan’s Tucson Cork) as they vie for the title of the 2008 Tucson’s Copper Chef.

A portion of the proceeds from the 2008 Tucson Culinary Festival benefit the Community Food Bank, New Beginnings for Woman and Children, and the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation.
