The final programs in the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s Just for Kids series for the 2010/11-82nd season are Saturday, April 2 with two performances of “Emily and the Ghost Flute.” Featuring the TSO Flute Viola Harp Trio, the program will be presented at 10 a.m. and again at 11:15 at the Tucson Symphony Center, 2175 N. Sixth Ave.
The Flute Viola Harp Trio will perform an original and mysterious story by TSO violinist and composer Michael Fan. In “Emily and the Ghost Flute,” a strange sound is heard coming from a house that has been abandoned for years. With a little help from the trio, Emily must figure out what the sound is and where it originates.
Just for Kids is a popular series of fun, informal, interactive chamber ensemble concerts lasting about 45 minutes. The performances use humor, storytelling, demonstrations and participation to introduce classical music and orchestral instruments in an entertaining and kid-friendly environment to families including those with very young children.
In addition, at the Town Hall in Sahuarita on April 9, the TSO Percussion Ensemble will perform “Kitchen Music.” The production challenges children to make music everywhere, even in their own home.
“Kitchen Music” will be performed on Saturday, April 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sahuarita Town Hall, 375 W. Sahuarita Center Way.
Admission to all the performances is free, with a suggested $3 per person donation.
