A free day of family fun and fishing is slated for Saturday, June 19, when the Gladden Farms Community Association presents its third annual Gladden's Family Fishing Day.
The event, in partnership with Arizona Game and Fish Department's education program, runs from 7 a.m. to noon that Saturday at ramada 3 on Silverbell Lake in Columbus Park off Silverbell Road.
"Don't have a pole, a license or bait? No problem. Poles and bait will be available for the first 100 people," a release said, and no one is required to have a license.
DLC Resources, the commercial landscape contractor for Gladden Farms Community Association in Marana, is helping to host a free barbeque lunch for those attending the Fathers Day weekend happening. Door prizes are part of the day.
"Some of the fondest memories I have from childhood are sitting lakeside with my father singing out 'Fishy, fishy in the brook; come and sit upon my hook,'" said Kristina Allen, who's helping put the day together. "It is an amazing way to celebrate family and was done with my father in mind."
Allen lost her father four years ago at the age of 51. Last year, she participated with her children.
"This event is a wonderful tradition amongst the resident of Gladden Farms and this year the addition of prizes and a BBQ lunch courtesy of DLC Resources made it clear that we should open up our community tradition to the public," Allen said.
