Ah, I long for the good ol’ days, when Chicago was a hotbed of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery, and that was just the weekend.

The Tony Award-winning musical “Chicago” weaves all the stories together of a time when a little lady could get away with murder if she had shapely legs, a clever lawyer and a remarkable score of songs and dance numbers.

Studio Connections and The daVinci Players bring “Chicago” to life Oct. 7-15 at Zuzi, 738 N. Fifth Ave., in Tucson. It features a book by Bob Fosse and Fred Ebb, who also wrote the song lyrics, and music by John Kander.

It tells the story of singer/dancer/murderess Velma Kelly, who is idolized by the starry-eyed and devious Roxie Hart, and their quest to escape jail thanks to their hotshot lawyer, Billy Flynn.

The local production is directed by Robert Encila and choreographed by La Tosha Evans-Maynard, under the musical direction of Harriet Siskin.

It stars Chezale Rodriguez at Velma, Rachel Santay as Roxie, and Justin Moore as Billy. The cast also includes Eddie Diaz as Amos Hart, Roxie’s long-suffering husband, and Ida Rhem as Matron “Mama.”

Show times are Oct. 7-8, and Oct. 13-15 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 8-9 and Oct. 15 at 3 p.m.

Tickets cost $28 for general admission, and $25 for active military, senior citizens and students.
