Local freelance photographer Jim Cowlin will conduct a class in basic digital photography this fall through Central Arizona College’s community education program.

The class will be held at Mountain Vista School in Oracle on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuition is $25.

Students will study the basics of digital photography, including tips for lighting and composition. Students will be asked to bring their cameras and instruction booklets to class.

Cowlin is a freelance photographer based in Oracle, specializing in nature, travel and fine art. For more than 30 years he has documented the landscape of the Western United States and has built a collection of images that range from broad panoramic views to intimate close-ups.

His photographs range from the tourist meccas of Yellowstone and Grand Canyon to lesser known attractions, such as the Logan Canyon National Scenic Byway.
