A special holiday service is being conducted by a Northwest church on Sunday, Dec. 21, for individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one and feel a need to be with other individuals in the same situation.

A “Blue Christmas Service” begins at 5:30 p.m. that Sunday at Casas Adobes Congregational United Church of Christ, 6801 N. Oracle Road.

Many people have experienced loss, and feel overwhelmed by the sights and sounds of the holidays, a release said. “Please don’t feel you need to be alone during this time of the year. We offer hope, comfort and peace to help you through what may be difficult times.

“This service is a time to recognize our losses, and to allow them to be an honest part of the season, leaving us a bit freer to experience the joy of the season,” a release said.

The service is open to the public. All are welcome. The church is located on bus route 16, on the west side of Oracle Road, between Ina and Orange Grove roads.

Additional information on Casas Adobes Congregational United Church of Christ is available at 297-1181, or online at www.casasadobesucc.org. The church has a parish nurse on staff who provides health and healing services, including information about free grief counseling.
