Nominations are due Jan. 15 for the annual Citizen of the Year award, presented by the Rotary Club of Oro Valley.

Anyone in Oro Valley is welcome and encouraged to nominate a person they believe to be a worthy recipient. Nomination forms may be downloaded from the club’s website,, or obtained from any member of the Oro Valley Rotary Club.

Oro Valley Rotary established the Citizen of the Year award to “recognize an individual whose life demonstrates commitment to the Rotary ideals of Service above Self and high ethical standards,” a release said.

Last February, Oro Valley Rotary honored Jay Knapp, an 81-year-old retired real estate broker who volunteers every week at the pediatric intensive care unit at Tucson Medical Center, performing magic tricks for children.

Oro Valley Rotary’s second annual Citizen of the Year Gala is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26.

A portion of the proceeds from the award gala go to a charity of the honoree’s choice. Other proceeds support the charitable activities of the Oro Valley Rotary Foundation.

The Rotary Club of Oro Valley Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
