Park lights up for holidays

A half-million lights and guiding luminaries blanket Tohono Chul Park on two consecutive weekends in November and December, when the Paseo del Norte park presents its annual Holiday Nights.

The 2009 event is set for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27 and 28, and again Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4 and 5, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the 7366 N. Paseo del Norte park.

Each evening, some of greater Tucson's favorite performers grace the grounds, among them Joe Bourne, Gabriel Ayala, the Reveille Men's Chorus and the Southern Arizona Women's Chorus. Mark Holdaway performs with Will Clipman each evening in the entry ramada.

Tickets are $7 for adult members, $10 for the general public and $2 for children 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door.

Live music and holiday treats such as hot cider add to the atmosphere. The Holiday for the Park ornament sale and auction take place in the Gallery.

Tohono Chul Park offering weddings, renewals 3 nights

With holiday lights twinkling and stars shining, Tohono Chul Park is offering three nights for weddings and renewal of vows in December.

The Paseo del Norte park offers five all-inclusive, 45-minute ceremonies Dec. 18, 19 and 31.

Packages include a ceremony performed by a minister, a professional photographer (with an 8-by-10 photo), a bouquet for the bride by Posh Petals Florist, wedding cake by Ambrosia of Tucson and a toast of sparkling cider.

Couples can invite up to 12 guests to partake in the nuptial exchange, cake and the toast. Ceremonies take place in Tohono Chul Park's idyllic Performance Garden.

Weddings and renewals are planned for 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. each of those nights in the park. Cost Dec. 18 or 19 is $500; cost Dec. 31 is $750. People may call 742-6455, extension 0 for further details. Couples are responsible for obtaining their wedding license from the county recorder's office.
