Carol Ann wins first prize in abstract art show

The artist Carol Ann has won first place in the 2010 Visual Arts Exhibition and Competition put on by the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance and Ventana Medical Systems.

Carol Ann – she does not use a last name – was recognized for her work "Uptown / Downtown."

Second place went to Joanne M. Hungate for "Two Moods;" third place, Elizabeth Mann for "Keoniloa Mist."

Honorable mention winners were Ava Young for "Redwood," Gail Titus for "Image 1, Untitled," and Liz Vaughn for "Inspiring Picasso."

Recognition of merit was given to Susan Oyler for "Golden Splendor," Lisa Mishler for "Aqua Landscape" and Judy Wyner for "Missed Connections."

The exhibition is available for public viewing through Sept. 30, with gallery hours Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. Ventana is located in Oro Valley's Innovation Park.

Benefit concert to aid ICS this Friday, July 30

A free benefit concert for Interfaith Community Services is being presented this Friday, July 30, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1220 W. Magee Road.

Terrie Ashbaugh, Ascension's music director and artistic director of the Southern Arizona Women's Chorus, leads 45 singers from local choruses in a "mixed summer chorus." The performance begins at 7 p.m.

Members of local choruses, who often take a break during the summer, are gathering for the special performance. They come from such groups as the Sons of Orpheus, the Arizona Repertory Singers, the Tucson Masterworks Chorale, the University of Arizona Faculty/Staff Choir, Christ the King Episcopal Church, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and Ascension Lutheran and the Southern Arizona Women's Chorus.

Donations of money and nonperishable food will be collected for ICS, a release said.
