It's that time of year when high school seniors get dressed in gowns and transfer their tassels from one side of the mortar board to the other.

It is also time for graduation night celebrations, with Marana High School joining in the merriment.

Next week, Marana, Mountain View, Ironwood Ridge and CDO high schools seniors are being offered a chance to spend the evening at a lock-in graduation night at their school.

For the first time, Marana High School will be hosting a graduation party of its own, a Cruise in Hawaii themed celebration.

Monica Sutton, head of decorations, said they almost called off the event when a few students stepped up and searched around for donations along with a little research on the positives to holding a grad-night party.

"I have learned a lot from (the organizers of) Mountain View and CDO," said Sutton. "It's been very difficult getting this up and running with such a bad economy."

The graduation parties offer students a safe location to spend their night around fellow students surrounded by such activities as casino rooms, climbing walls, obstacle courses, shows and entertainment. Along with all of the activities in a safe environment from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., students have the opportunity to win raffle prizes, including a car from Marana High School's celebration.

Tickets for Marana's Project Graduation are on sale for $65. If you would like to donate or volunteer, call Monica Sutton at 579-0294.
