The Tucson Jazz Society swings into spring this Sunday, March 28, welcoming Swing Fever to its first Tucson appearance.

Denise Perrier, blues and jazz vocalist, joins Swing Fever at 7 p.m. Sunday at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa.

"We're recreating the feel of the jazz supper clubs of the 1930s and '40s in the present-day Southwest," said Jeff Lewis, president of the Tucson Jazz Society. "Swing Fever's musicians performed and recorded with the originators of the classic big band sound, including Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Ella Fitzgerald. Their experience learning from the legends brings authenticity to Swing Fever's own unique sound."

Swing Fever was founded in 1978 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The group "quickly established its reputation for classic big band sound," a release said. Swing Fever has played the Monterey Jazz Festival, at the 125th Anniversary gala of the San Francisco Art Institute and at the inaugural of former Mayor Willie Brown.

Vocalist Denise Perrier has performed with Swing Fever since 1994. She "has the guts of a blues-jazz singer and the gloss of a cabaret singer," one critic wrote. Perrier performed in the San Francisco production of "One Mo' Time," at the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention at Town Hall in New York City, and with the Smithsonian Duke Ellington Tribute and Exhibition.
