JOVERT, the award-winning Tucson-based steel drum band, continues the 2009-'10 Cultural Concert Series at Steam Pump Ranch on Friday, March 19.

The event, put on by the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance, starts at 6:30 p.m. that Friday on the green at the Steam Pump Village shopping center off North Oracle Road, just north of First Avenue. Admission is free of charge.

Students from Tucson High Magnet School comprise the ranks of JOVERT. The outfit dances to the beat of a different drum line. Its well-known, versatile sound has reverberated throughout Tucson for more than a decade, a release said.

Since the band formed, the local students have recorded four CDs and sold thousands of copies on almost every continent. With more than 110 student instrumentalists, JOVERT's performances vary in both size and sound, as they play live shows throughout Arizona, in Las Vegas and in California.

For more information about JOVERT, or to listen and watch the band perform live in advance of its March 19 show in Oro Valley, go to www.jovert.com/index.html.

The 2009-10 SAACA Cultural Concert Series at Steam Pump features a variety of ethnic, regional and world musical styles. The goal of each free performance is "to broaden attendees' appreciation of various musical traditions and the cultures from which they originate," the release continued.

SAACA will present its inaugural Marana Concert Series, starting April 10, and an expanded version of its popular La Encantada Summer Concert Series, beginning May 14.
