The Arizona Rose Theatre Company takes guests "on a magical journey" this Saturday at Marana's new Crossroads at Silverbell Park.
The 25-year Tucson theater company and the Town of Marana present "Broadway Fairytales" this Saturday, June 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the community's new Crossroads at Silverbell Park.
The show is free to the public. Vendors are selling refreshments. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged.
"Broadway Fairytales" has touches of the classics, stories like "Cinderella," "The Little Mermaid" and "Peter Pan," as well as new favorites like "Wicked" and "Shrek." "This show is guaranteed to have something for every member of the family," said Leah Rosthenhausler, marketing director for the Arizona Rose Theatre Company.
Cynthia Howell, who founded the company with her late husband Terry, is a Marana resident who continues as artistic director. Members of her family run the theater.
"We write all of our own original musicals, and we've been performing them at the Berger Performing Arts Center," Rosthenhausler said. "We're changing our hats, and moving toward the Marana area. We want to get back toward teaching."
There are 16 players in the production, which is a full-staged musical with dancing, singing and costumes.
"Broadway Fairytales" is the first of three shows this summer, each of them a Broadway celebration. "Broadway Classics" is staged July 24, "Broadway Cinema" on Aug. 21.
Jerry Bob's Family Restaurant at Cortaro and Silverbell is the sponsor for the series. "We're very happy to have them aboard," Rosthenhausler said.
