Christian Youth Theater of Tucson will perform Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” as the first show of its 2011-2012 season.

Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, the Broadway version of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast’ includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman along with new songs by Menken and Tim Rice.

“Beauty and the Beast” will have six public performances Oct. 27-30 at Pima Community College’s Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre.

CYT Tucson is a local nonprofit theater arts organization providing instructional classes and live musical performance opportunities for Tucson youth ages 6-18.

Its most recent fully staged shows include “Les Miserables” and “Willy Wonka” at the Fox, “Oklahoma” at Pima Community College, and “Annie” at Crowder Hall at the University of Arizona.

Artistic directors Jon and Kathy Thuerbach are recent recipients of the Arizona “Making Children’s Lives Better” Award.

The 2011-2012 season will also include “Alice in Wonderland” and “Seussical the Musical.”
