Picturing Tucson: An Exhibit of Cell Phone Photography is gearing up for a two-month exhibition, May 19-July 12, at Tohono Chul Park, 7366 N. Paseo del Norte, one stoplight west of Oracle and Ina roads.

Kicking off the exhibition is an opening reception on Saturday, May 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Galleries at the park.

Picturing Tucson captures cell phone users’ impressions of Tucson and the special qualities of the places where they live, work and play using the camera in their cell phones. The exhibit is a montage of 5-inch by 7-inch images showing a wide range of fresh and creative perspectives of Tucson and the details that make people want to stop and look more closely.

“Cell phones have changed the way we experience the world. It’s so easy to capture a moment in time with tiny cameras at our fingertips,” says Vicki Donkersley, Tohono Chul Park’s exhibits curator. “I have been amazed at the quality and creativity that can be achieved using a cell phone camera and its apps. The work in the exhibit is exciting and fun, and I think those who see the exhibit will be astonished.”

The cost to view the exhibit is included in the park admission, which is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and active military, and $3 children ages 5-12.

Also showing at Tohono Chul Park is Pattern and Rhythm, which features the work of regional artists who are directly inspired by the artistry of Mother Nature. Through photography, painting, fiber arts and other media, these artists look to nature’s patterns and rhythms as the starting point for their own creative journeys.

Pattern and Rhythm is on display through June 19.
