New Hires

• Bill Carnegie, the president and CEO of the Community Food Bank, has been elected to a one-year term as chairman of the board of directors for the Arizona Association of Food Banks. The organization represents six food bank warehouses throughout the state. Carnegie has been with the Community Food Bank since 2006.

• Sarah Kennedy has been named director of wellness at the Splendido retirement community. She will be responsible for providing consultation, conducting classes and programs and overseeing the spa and fitness center. Kennedy has a masters degree in biology from Lindenwood College in Missouri.


• John Dehnert purchased 3,000 square feet at Puente Nuevo Plaza at the northeast corner of Alvernon Way and Fort Lowell Road for relocation of his dental practice.

• Justin Powers purchased the 4,350-square-foot facility at 3720 E. 43rd Place for $349,000 from EMD Investments.

• Babuluci Fresh Fruit and Vegetables leased 8,400 square feet at 576 W. Ventura St.

• The U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Census Bureau leased 7,180 square feet at 1 E. Congress St.

• Catalina Scientific Instruments leased 1,440 square feet at 1870 W. Prince Road.


• Rotary International has recognized Jim Nook and Carol Smelser of the Dove Mountain Rotary Club as Paul Harris Fellows for their financial contributions to the Rotary Foundation.

• Michelle Germano, a news director from KOLD 13, has been given Tucson Business Edge’s 40 Under 40 Edgies Award.

• Wine Spectator magazine awarded Westward Look Resort’s Gold Room the 2008 Award of Excellence for its wine selection.

• Cox Media received the Sales Achievement in Local/Retail Sales from the Cable Advertising Bureau for the company’s work on the APS Green Choice campaign.

• 94.9MIXfm has been nominated for three Industry Achievement Awards from Radio and Records. The station was shortlisted for AC station of the year, AC music director of the year (Leslie Lois) and AC personality of the year (Bobby Rich).

Other News…

• Tucson and Guadalajara signed an agreement earlier this month to promote mutual economic development. Part of the agreement between the two cities includes providing office space for expansion of business operations in each city, advancing tourism and promotion of university collaboration.
