An indoor swimming facility has opened in the Northwest, co-owned and operated by Rick DeMont, the University of Arizona associate head coach, former swimming world record holder and Olympian.

A grand opening event at the DeMont Family Swim School is set for Saturday, Nov. 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. at its Ina and Shannon location. Swimming, pizza, gelato, children's music, decorating of Ben's Bells and autographs from 2008 Beijing Olympic medalists are being offered.

DeMont Family Swim School is opening in a newly renovated indoor facility located on the northeast corner of Ina and Shannon, in the Plaza Sonora shopping center.

"Opening an indoor learn-to-swim facility offers Tucson families an opportunity to maintain swimming skills throughout the year," said Carrie DeMont, co-owner of the school. "Children need consistency to maintain their summer swim skills during the winter months."

The business focuses upon fundamental swimming skills, a release said. Instructors provide weekly, half-hour, small group and semi-private lessons.

The facility has warm water, warm air and ultraviolet light disinfection technology.

Demont Family Swim School's web site is www.demontswim.com, the phone number 877-SWIM (7946).
